When you see an opportunity flapping in the breeze you should consider carefully whether you want to pass it up or take it on because you may never see another opportunity like it again. Life is fun when you have many opportunities to choose from but it becomes boring, lonely, and depressing when you feel you have no opportunities. It can only mean that we have taken fewer chances than we should have, or perhaps that we took too many chances.

Plausible excuses and explanations help to underscore the value we place in the things around us but we cannot rationalize or justify the value we place on things in the course of Time, which is longer than history and greater than human memory. Did the dinosaurs have favored possessions, even if they were no more than bright things such as magpies may collect? When did the concept of value and possession come into existence, for animals are territorial in much the same way as humans. We have been carving territories beside animals for as long as we have coexisted.
